Professor Derek Connolly
Consultant Preventive Cardiologist
Prof Derek Connolly BSc [1st Cl. Hons] MB ChB [Edin] PhD [Cantab] DSc[Hon] FRCP FRCP FESC is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Priory Hospital, Birmingham City Hospital and the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Birmingham UK.
He is one of the most sought after Cardiologists in the UK and gives over 100 lectures each year worldwide. He has patients from all around the world.

He has a particular interest in preventive cardiology and has published extensively in this field. His practice uses state of the art diagnostics and treatments including CT coronary angiography .
He trained in Cambridge, London, Edinburgh and San Diego where he was a Carnegie Scholar. He has a first class degree in Pharmacology from the University of Edinburgh where he was the Brunton medallist and Keasbey Bursary holder. His PhD in molecular cardiology is from the University of Cambridge.
He is the Chief or Primary Investigator of multiple large trials in Cardiovascular medicine.
He developed one of the UK's first primary angioplasty programmes, and one of the UK's largest cardiac CT programmes.
He is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and a Council member of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society.
He is the Vice Chancellor's Professorial Fellow in Health Care Research at Aston University where he was awarded an honorary doctrate in 2023 for his contributions to Medicine and Science.
Prof Connolly's private practice has been based at the Priory Hospital, Edgbaston, Birmingham for over 25 years.
He has clinics on Thursdays and Fridays and accepts all the major insurance providers as well as self funding patients

Prof Connolly specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of heart disease. Since his Consultant Appointment in 2000 he has developed a large practice with a reputation for high quality, evidence based medicine. He is friendly and sympathetic . INVESTIGATIONS AND TREATMENTS
Prof Connolly undertakes and can access all the modern investigation and tools for the investigation of heart disease. He has personally undertaken over 10000 investigations and implanted over 4000 stents. In doing so he has saved many lives. However his main aim is to catch heart disease early and stop it causing problems.
RESEARCH
Prof Connolly is a very active researcher and has been  the Chief or Principal investigator in many landmark trials that have improved the treatment of heart disease. He has a first class degree in Pharmacology from the University of Edinburgh and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. He is often in the Newspapers
